Roy Sampson, 57, of Carlise, was in a vacant room trying to start a fire when the police were called to the Diamond Carlisle Motel located at 1245 Harrisburg Pike, according to the release.
Upon arrival, officers found two vacant rooms "actively on fire."
"Officers would speak to a witness and soon after would locate the suspect, Roy Sampson walking through the parking lot of the motel," as stated in the release.
Sampson was arrested at 12:48 p.m. and charged with arson, risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, and disorderly or hazardous conduct, police say and court documents confirm.
He has been held in the Cumberland County Jail on $100,000 in bail and his preliminary hearing has been set before Magisterial District Judge Paul M. Fegley on March 15 at 9:30 a.m., according to his court docket.
He has no prior criminal record in the state.
The motel is listed as "permanently closed" according to Google, and the listed phone number was disconnected when Daily Voice reached out.
